April Favourites - A Little Bit Of Everything!

April has been a month of two halves for me. I spent the first two weeks studying for professional exams, which I won’t explain to you as I’d rather pretend they didn’t exist, and the point of putting make up on or even brushing my hair seemed fairly debatable! Since then I’ve been trying to make up for it by going out endlessly, and happily the weather seems to be celebrating with me – I was starting to worry that the weather in the UK was broken, and that we’d never see the sun again!

So as it’s now May – my birthday month, a Bank Holiday month, and in my slightly biased opinion the best month of the year – I thought I’d celebrate with my first ever monthly favourites post!

Beauty

OK, I’m just going to come right out and admit it – I’m addicted to Soap & Glory. Everything just smells so edible and it makes me actually want to use it. I am the sort of lazy person who thinks putting moisturiser on takes up time that could be spent doing something more fun, so it takes a lot for a body butter to impress me into actually using it. This one has. It feels like it just sinks into your skin, leaving it all soft and nice-smelling but not sticky or wet, so you can still put your clothes on fairly quickly after using it and not feel all slimy and gross! Soap & Glory are one of those brands that make decently priced products which feel like a luxury. I love this.

OK, so I’ve spent half of this month stressed out, eating junk food and not getting any air – and the second half celebrating my freedom, and not exactly getting 8 hours of sleep a night! It’s amazing my skin hasn’t filed an official complaint against me – and I think this cleanser is part of the reason it hasn’t. It’s soothing, it reduces redness and irritation, and I have really noticed an improvement in my skin since I started using it. Not the cheapest cleanser around, but in my opinion this is worth the money.

What more do you want from a gradual tanner? It’s moisturizing, it leaves a natural bronze glow on your skin, it never looks orange and it doesn’t go streaky. It does smell disgusting, there’s no doubt about that, but it fades pretty quickly. This is definitely the best gradual tanner I’ve tried.

Make Up

This is my favourite favourite of the month. I’m a sucker for packaging, and I fell for this gorgeous shiny little compact with its butterfly design and pretty colours, so to be honest I didn’t even test out the make up before I bought it – but there are two gorgeous eye colours and a blush. I’m planning on doing a further post on my Too Faced products, so I’ll do a further review on this then, but for now, I just think this is beautiful!

I know there’s been crazy amounts of hype about these so I won’t say too much, only that I think it’s all very justified and that you should really check these out if you tend to find lipstick too high maintenance (I do!) The colours I’ve been particularly wearing this month, shown here, are from top to bottom: Strawberry Shortcake (a subtle baby pink), Berry Smoothie (a darker pink which looks really nice and natural on the lips) and Candy Apple (an easy way to wear red lipstick). You can see how the colours are sheer, but really buildable, so they’re just a really versatile product.

While you’re there, use a bit of the Lush Popcorn flavoured lip scrub – but try not to eat it all. It’s just that good!

It’s so hard to pick a nail polish favourite, but this purple from the new Models Own highlighter range really cheered me up this month when I painted my nails during a brief revision break. I love Models Own polishes – they’re such a great quality that you really only need one coat, and two coats will last a week. Their entire new range of neon colours is worth checking out, I can’t wait to get some more…(sorry, bank balance!)

Random

Food favourite

I’m obsessed with Metcalfe Skinny rice cakes. I eat them basically every day…I gravitate towards the milk chocolate ones, but they’re all just so good, and they fill you up for hours, and they’re only around 85 calories per rice cake so it feels guilt free… I could eat them all day long…and I might!

Music favourite

Bastille are my band of the month. I’ve been listening non stop to their album, Bad Blood, and I’m really excited to see them when I head to Rock Werchter later this year (they’re also at Glasto, if you’re going - JEALOUSSS) because word on the street is that they’re even better live. I find it difficult to truly judge a band before I see them live, so I’m really hoping they impress me, but in the meantime, if you’re after some happy, summery alt-rock, give their album a listen!

Fashion favourite

I bought this hat from Primark a week or so ago and I love it. I keep picturing myself at a festival, with pink dip dyed hair, wearing this hat! As per my ’25 Things About Me’ post, I’m terrible for buying hats and never wearing them, so I’m really going to make an effort not to do that with this one…

Jewellery favourite

Again from Primark (we only went in there to pick up socks for my boyfriend – I don’t know how this happened) I picked up these selections of bracelets. They were £1.50 each and later someone in the pub knowledgeably said to me ‘Oh, I’ve got those, from Urban Outfitters right?’ So – I was pretty pleased with that! Get down to Primark (Primarni, as I like to call it) and buy them!
