A Hotel In Your Own City

Some of you may not be aware that I am currently in the process of moving. My boyfriend and I have secured our dream flat, but it isn’t available until mid August. I’m on holiday a lot in July, but in the meantime I have been doing some pretty heavy duty commuting – which, while it gives me a good chance to catch up on some reading, leaves me tired and a bit grouchy. On the days when the trains are delayed, the tubes are crowded and I’m hot, cross and late, I start to wonder why I want to live in London at all! Which is why, when my boyfriends’ company agreed to put us up in a central London hotel for the night, I leapt at the chance!

The Kingsley Thistle hotel

Having lived in or very close to London for years, I’ve never really stayed in a hotel in the city centre. The Kingsley hotel is in Covent Garden, giving easy access to both the business and entertainment districts of London, and has a beautiful, old fashioned English vibe.

After work my boyfriend and I spent a typical rainy London evening in the Princess Louise pub, one of my favourites in Holborn. There’s little compartments downstairs, but when it’s busy I like to escape up the narrow side staircase to the upstairs bar. It’s like drinking in an old fashioned living room, with National Trust style portraits and quaint, chintzy furniture. There are a few tourists, but most people are locals relaxing after work.

We had a few drinks and then wandered back to the hotel. I love a hotel with a beautiful stair case – it just feels so grand!

Our room was spacious, comfortable and provided everything we needed – from body lotion, to coffee, to a bottle of wine, which I thought was a nice touch!

I loved the little seating area with its view across the city.

I guess I was having a good time...

After a good night’s sleep in our ridiculously huge bed, I was ready for my favourite part of a hotel stay – the hotel breakfast!

I’m a big fan of a breakfast buffet, and this one didn’t disappoint – it was well stocked with options for all tastes.

What did I go for?

Chocolate croissants and nutella – OBVIOUSLY. Washed down with a big cup of coffee.

Staying away for the night didn’t just give me a chance to relax; it made me see London from an outsider’s view and find it fun again. As they say, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life – I’m not quite tired yet! I can also thoroughly recommend the Kingsley by Thistle hotel – I’d love to stay there again…if my boyfriend’s company allow it!!
