Rock Werchter Festival Day 3 & 4

I woke up on Saturday morning of Rock Werchter still in my flower crown. A couple of bruises, a bit of a hangover, tired, and very, very happy.

I couldn’t believe how hot it was! The weather forecast had been good, but believe me when I say that I have NEVER been to a sunny festival before. It was a revelation! I pulled on some clothes, swapped my flower crown for a sun protecting hat, and jumped out of the tent, gasping for air. Luckily the others had woken up too, and we wandered down to the food stalls in the amazing sunlight.

Frozen yoghurt? Just what I needed!

Saturday didn’t appeal to me as much musically – there was a lot of heavy metal, such as Nick Cave and Rammstein, which isn’t really my scene – so we spent a lot of the day just hanging out around the tent, enjoying the sunshine, the atmosphere and each others’ company.

However, the Stereophonics played in the afternoon, and I’ve always really liked them, so we headed to the arena, and stood with our cider in the slight breeze. It was one of those days where you can’t imagine ever being sad again!

When they had finished we had a look around the rest of the festival site and found a little promotional room where you could win prizes. You went inside and they blew paper confetti everywhere, in which you had to scramble around for tokens, which could be exchanged for promotional gifts like chewing gum and cheap bags. We obviously had a go – I felt like I was finally on a children’s TV show!

Unfortunately, I also broke my flip flop and spent the rest of the day wandering around with no shoes on like a mad hippie! We had to make a little trip back to the camp site so I could find some! In the meantime, I just used my boyfriend as shoes...

The rest of the day was spent listening to little known bands and soaking up the atmosphere.

Sunday we woke up bright and early for our last full festival day. It was even hotter so I went for a backless top, and us girls rather trustingly let the boys wash our hair!

The line up on Sunday was incredible, including Bastille, Of Monsters And Men, and Jake Bugg – and an amazing gypsy band called Gogol Bordello, who I recommend seeing if you ever can, as they’re completely insane! They really get the crowd going and their enthusiasm is contagious.

We spent the day dancing, laughing, and throwing water all over each other as we tried not to bake in the heat. It was a crazy, exhilarating day, culminating after the Editor’s electric set in an awesome firework display.

The next day we sadly packed up our little campsite, got back in our (now insanely hot) rented car, and drove home. Rock Werchter was incredible and I can recommend it to anyone who loves festivals, even a novice – although going to a festival abroad was more hassle than one in England, admittedly. I’ll definitely be going back next year! Goodbye Rock Werchter, we miss you already!

Tomorrow I’ll have a post on my Turkey holiday, so stay tuned for that!

  7. What a load of utter fucking bollocks!! Nick Cave isn't anywhere near heavy fuckin' metal!!! You also say festivals are about fashions (Hunter wellies etc)?!? Are they fuck!!! Real festival people don't give a shit, and take the piss out of the tits who wear Hunters, Barbour and all that shit.......................Fuckin' part timer, probably a middle/upper class girl who's had a very very easy life and has jumped firmly on the festival bandwagon! Seriously, festival veterans take the piss out of people like you, you took a fuckin' picnic bench for fuck sake!!!!!!!!! Hahahah, tosser.

    1. a.) Isn't he? Oh, well, he's shit anyway.
b.) Where do I mention hunter wellies? Trust me, it was like a million degrees, if you wore Hunters you'd die
c.) I am very much a middle class girl who's had a very nice, easy life...I would've thought that was, you know, somewhat obvious from my blog in general
d.) Seriously, you should take a picnic bench to your next festival. SO much better than sitting in the mud with all the other festival veteran losers ;-)
