Lunchtime Max Factor Make Up Haul!

Does anyone else do this – just pop out at lunchtime for a walk…then stop off at Boots, maybe to pick up a diet coke or a sandwich…and come out 10 minutes later £25 lighter with a bag full of make up?! Or is it just me?!

Either way, I was innocently browsing the make up stands yesterday when I saw that Max Factor were offering a free gift box if you spent over £15 on their products. I’m usually a little bit dubious about these free gift offers – I find some companies give away odd colours, or products they don’t actually offer in their line because they’re a bit rubbish, or really small samples that only last two uses! However, one of the boxes was actually open and I was quite impressed by Max Factor’s offering, so I thought I'd go ahead and pick up a few things...

I’d received a Lipfinity lipstick for my birthday and I’ve really been enjoying using it, but found the colour a bit dark for daywear and quite fancied getting a more natural colour. It seemed like the perfect time to do this, so I picked up this gorgeous dusky rose colour, 0070 ‘Spicy.’

I was then drawn to the little bottles of nail varnish and completely fell for this effervescent pale pink colour, 05 ‘Sunny Pink.’ This had already taken me over the £15 mark so I could’ve stopped there, but I saw that they had a crème blush in a colour I didn’t already have, 09 'Soft Murano'. I love these blushes – they’re really creamy and pigmented, you can actually use them as a lip colour if you get desperate and they’re so little and convenient, so I grabbed one of those as well.

This more than qualified me to get the free gift box, attractively emblazoned with Gwyneth Paltrow’s face, which contained a gorgeous coral nail polish, a mini Max Factor mascara, a lovely champagne coloured eye shadow and a striking coral lip pencil. None of these are things I would’ve necessarily tried if they hadn’t been in the box, but for me that’s half the fun!

What do you think of Max Factor? Have you tried any of these products before?

A Southern Girl up North

Bank holiday weekends for me are a chance to get out of London and explore the English countryside. As we’d stayed down South earlier this month, my boyfriend and I decided this time to take a little trip up to Sheffield, which for me – a girl who rarely leaves the M25 circle – is very far North! We stayed in the beautiful little village of Dore, perched between Sheffield city centre and the rolling hills of the Peak District. I wasn’t expecting much from the English weather, based on current form, so was pretty amazed when I woke up on Sunday to a gloriously sunny day. Of course, the first thing I wanted to do was go exploring the countryside! It was a pretty steep climb up the hills, but when we got to the top it was completely worth it – I felt like I was on top of the world!

When I was little my dad used to call me a mountain goat because I was always scrambling up cliffs, and this weekend I relived my childhood as we climbed up the rocks. I wasn’t happy until I got all the way to the top and could stare out across the scenery which is, frankly, amazing. I didn’t realise how beautiful this part of the world was – it’s just green as far as the eye can see.

After a long walk, we went for a quick lunch in one of the local country pubs and wandered around the village of Dore. In my opinion, there’s nothing more relaxing than lunch in the sunshine, knowing you have nothing to do for the rest of the day!

After lunch my boyfriend had to catch up on some work so I settled down in the garden with a book. Living in a flat in London with only a balcony for outdoor space really makes you appreciate how relaxing it is to sit in a garden – doesn’t it just look like paradise?!

Later on I had a long bath and got ready for dinner with a glass of wine.

My boyfriend surprised me with a bunch of flowers, which made me happy, and we sat outside with cold drinks, talking until it was time to go out to eat.

By the end of the day I felt more relaxed than I have in years, ready to come back to London and take on the world!

Making Memories, One Line A Day

I love writing. It’s why I write a blog – I love having my own space to record what I’ve been up to, things I like and dislike and so on. I’ve kept a diary on and off since I was younger. I sometimes find filling up half a page a day can be a bit challenging, but still wanted a way to record little moments and random happenings of the day – things that I would otherwise forget and lose forever.

memory diary

As soon as I saw this beautiful little book I knew I had to have it. I’ve actually seen one of these on a blog post before, but can’t remember whose blog it was – if it was yours, please let me know and I’ll link to your post! I think this is such a lovely idea.

Memory book pages diary

Each little page is split into five, giving you just enough space to jot down a couple of thoughts or memories from the day – and each year you add to it, and can look back on how you felt on that day in the previous years. I think it’s the perfect, hassle free way to keep a diary.

Not only that, but this book is lovely to own. I love the duck egg blue cover with it’s gold embossed title, the pages are trimmed with gold and it feels like such good quality.

I love how it looks on my bookshelf and really look forward to writing in it. It was relatively inexpensive from Amazon – you can buy different versions, go and have a look!

What do you think of my little diary? Do you keep a diary yourself?

Festival Season...Pt 1

I’m a festival girl and I’m happy to admit it. I like dancing till my feet hurt in a crush of people to my favourite music, I like flowers in pink dip-dyed hair and neon face paint down my arms. I like sitting in the sun drinking cider out of paper cups, I like falling asleep at 3am under the stars, I like meeting hundreds of like minded friendly people who want to have a good time. I love the music, and the fashion and the freedom. It’s like suspending reality for a couple of days and living in your own happy world, where people don’t care about washing their hair and dirty wellington boots are the height of fashion, and everybody is happy and…okay, that’s enough rambling!

As festival season is rapidly approaching, and because I’ve been to so many and love it so much, I thought I’d do a mini series on my blog – on festival fashion and essentials, on surviving your first festival, maybe even a guide on which festival to go to! But for the meantime I thought I'd share some of my festival photos and update you on my summer plans.

This year I’ve got tickets to Rock Werchter, a festival in Belgium (website here). I’m so excited because the line up is amazing, and we’re thinking about potentially hiring a camper van to get us all there. The headliners are fantastic – I’ve seen both Blur and Kings of Leon before and thought they were incredible. Going abroad makes it feel like a proper holiday!

The other festival I’m definitely planning to go to is Green Man in Wales (here). I’ve been to this festival before – as I said in my ’25 things about me’ post, it’s my favourite. It’s generally a folk music festival, and it not only has amazing music – both big names, up and coming bands, and new artists – it also has loads of little stalls, and art, and it’s set against the impossibly beautiful backdrop of the Welsh hills. I have had an absolutely amazing time every time I’ve been and I can’t wait to return!

I’m also hoping I can go to a couple of day festivals – there’s always a lot going on in and around London!

Are you going to any festivals this year? I can't wait!!!

Birthday Make Up Haul!

Hello everyone! As I may have mentioned once or twice, it was my birthday on Thursday. Some of my lovely friends and family - who have really spoilt me this weekend - got me some make up items, and I also bought some as a little treat for myself, so I thought I'd give you a quick run through of them and my initial first impressions!

Max Factor Eyeshadow in Bronze Haze

This is a gorgeous dual-ended cream eyeshadow stick, which is perfect for travel make up. I love the colours - the champagne colour makes an excellent brow highlight and the brown is dark enough for a lid liner. A really great duo.

Soap & Glory Glow Job Moisture Lotion

As a Soap & Glory addict, I was really excited to receive this, even though I'm pretty sure my friend just bought it because of the funny name! It's a face moisturiser which contains little beads of fake tan which pop when you rub them onto your face. It's very odd when you first use it, but actually gives a really nice bronze effect.

Soap & Glory Daily Double Eyeshadow Pencil

Also by Soap & Glory, this is another dual ended eyeshadow stick with a shadow colour and a liner stick. I'm not sure how I'd use the liner as it's very thick - I'd probably use it as a lid colour. They're both nicely pigmented and great colours.

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish

I got these amazing speckled nail polishes in the colours 'Shooting Stars' (the midnight blue) and 'Rain Forest Canopy' (the dark turquoise). I absolutely love how these look on the nails...this is with 3 coats and I think it looks really different and interesting. I definitely want to get more colours from this collection!

Clinique Chubby Stick Eyeshadow

These are brand new - I'd seen the chubby sticks for lips before but never for eyes. I got 01 Bountiful Beige and 03 Fuller Fudge. These are so gorgeous - soft, nicely pigemented and easy to blend. I've been wearing them constantly!

Maxfactor Lipfinity

I've wanted to try the MaxFactor lipfinity lip colour for ages, but have never got round to it, so I can't wait to try this!

Rimmel Nail Polish in 405, Rose Libertine

I got this nail polish after seeing EssieButton rave about it and she was not wrong. I wore this on my birthday and absolutely love it. It's so cheap and so pretty...go buy it! Go!

Let me know if you've tried any of this make up, and what you think of it! Hope you're all having a lovely Sunday evening!

Birthday Cupcake Time

It’s my birthday!!!!! 26 successful (mostly) trips around the sun. As I’ve said before, I get completely overexcited about my birthday and celebrate it like a small child. However, I am actually working today –  I thought I’d take tomorrow off to celebrate instead, as it’s a Friday. It’s tradition at my workplace that on your birthday, you bring in some treats (slightly backwards, but there we are) so last night I thought I’d cook up some chocolate cupcakes.

I used the same Hummingbird book that I used in my previous Cupcakes post, and I think they turned out pretty well! I used gold edible glitter this time, which I think worked even better than the red.

What do you think?? If this doesn't convince you that edible glitter is amazing, nothing will!

Then when I got in this morning, my friends had bought me a red velvet cupcake from Sweet Couture Cake Boutique. If you’ve never stopped by this little place, you should – piles of luxurious buttercream sitting on top of melt-in-your-mouth sponge, these cakes are indulgent and delicious. Not to mention pretty and beautifully packaged – I think they put mine to shame!

Tonight I’m going out for dinner with my parents, boyfriend, sister and her boyfriend, which I’m so excited for. (Pretty much planning to eat all day long!) I already got some presents this morning – I’m not going to do a ‘what I got’ post, because I find them a bit boastful, but I was really happy with everything I got and I feel really lucky!

Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
