Cornwall – Engagement Dinner at Paul Ainsworth No 6

Firstly, thank you all so much for your lovely comments on my engagement post! It’s been really nice sharing the news with you all! Secondly, I'm so sorry for the lack of posts over the last few weeks. It's been manic but I am getting on top of my new job now so I'm back in the blogging game!

After my boyfriend – sorry, fiancé – proposed to me on top of the hill in Padstow at sunset, we walked back down into Padstow with our arms round each other, straight into the nearest pub for a celebratory drink. I just couldn’t stop staring at my ring, mostly in awe that he’d picked something I loved so much! Time disappeared as we chattered excitedly and soon we headed over to our dinner reservation, Paul Ainsworth at No 6.

I had been really excited about this dinner all week and it was just exacerbated by my new sparkly ring and happy news! The staff were lovely and brought us complimentary glasses of Prosecco (which produced the photo I used to announce my engagement to Facebook/the world!)

We ate sourdough bread with proper butter and salt,  still just so over excited. To be honest, I completely forgot to take a photograph of our starters – I was too busy calling my Mum – but it was a delicious potted chicken in a pea sauce (I don’t even like peas, which shows how much I wasn’t concentrating on the menu, but it was really tasty anyway!)

For my main I had Cornish saddle back pork, which came with this incredibly impressive crackling! The pork was juicy and tender, served with a scallop and lettuce, which went surprisingly well together.

Ian had the lamb, which I photographed spectacularly well, as you can see! You’re going to have to forgive me – I was excited. He said it was lovely.

The dessert was the real star of the show for me, and not just because we got our own little chocolate sauce congratulations…

Just look at it!

This is ‘A trip to the fairground’, and it was absolutely spectacular. I’m not going to even try and remember what everything was, but there was an incredible peanut and chocolate mousse, marshmallow dipped in chocolate, wafer cakes and popcorn, to name a few bits and pieces.

It tasted as good as it looked, and it looked amazing!

It might not be cheap, but for a special occasion it really is worth pushing the boat out. Obviously this restaurant will always have a special place in my heart now, but I really believe everyone would love it!

I know I’ve been a bit AWOL for the past week but I have a good excuse, I promise…as you might be able to tell from my blog post title, I’m engaged! Coincedentally, but very happily for me, this is also my 200th blog post. Celebrations all round!

Last week my boyfriend and I went on holiday to Cornwall. We went last year and had an amazing time, and this year was no different – there will be posts soon on our incredible dinners at sunset and beach times. We had spectacular weather – it was sunny every single day, which for England in September is really impressive – and I felt really happy and properly relaxed for the first time in ages. On our last night we were going to Padstow to have dinner at Paul Ainsworth’s No 6 restaurant and my boyfriend suggested going for a walk up the hill at sunset. With a view over the harbour, he got down on one knee!

I cried, and said yes, and put on my beautiful ring. This is the first photo of us as an engaged couple...lovely faces!

Not to be clichéd but it was one of those moments you’ll remember for your whole life, standing on top of that hill with no one else around, in a place that I have so many attachments to, with the person I love. I know I will remember that moment forever. We stayed up there as long as we could, savouring the moment, not wanting to go back down.

Afterwards we went for our amazing dinner…more on that tomorrow, but the whole night I felt glittery like I was made of stars.

Since then life has been a bit of a whirlwind – I’ve started a new job and done some pretty intensive training – but I’m going home this weekend for a big celebration with my family, and I can’t wait!

I’m so happy I can share this news with you all, and thanks so much for supporting me over the last few years. I hope you’re excited about coming along with me on my wedding journey!
