This year I decided to switch things up a bit and invite everyone over to my home turf, the Wharf, for a boozy brunch. My fiance found the venue - Plateau, a rooftop restaurant in the heart of Canary Wharf with great views. It's a really lovely restaurant, all modern white interiors.
We started with cocktails and presents...
Before moving onto the unlimited Prosecco! Plateau did state that for tables over six, we would be limited to half a bottle of Prosecco each. However, I noticed no such limitations (maybe we just didn't go over them) and our glasses were regularly topped up!
I started with a caeser salad - this was lovely and fresh, the egg perfectly poached and the waiter happily agreed to serve mine without anchovies!
For a main course on my birthday there was only one choice - steak. Served rare, with chips, dripping in garlic butter. Perfection. I think it's really excellent that steak is included in the set menu price with no supplement - little things like this make a big difference.
We had ice cream for dessert, and I'll be honest - I was a bit tipsy and overexcited at this point and I completely forgot to photograph it. Hazelnut ice cream is always going to be a winner, though!
Afterwards we headed back to my flat for yet more prosecco, a cake (with disastrous birthday candles), and sitting in the sun followed by drinks in the city with the few latecomers. I was in bed by midnight, absolutely shattered!
I can honestly say this was one of the best birthdays I've ever had - relaxed, sunny and all my friends were there. I feel like a very lucky girl!
