This weekend was spent escaping the London rat race in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.
My husband turned 30 at the beginning of November and his sister wanted to surprise him with a little family trip away, so on Friday afternoon we met under the light of the BEAUTIFUL Disney tree at King’s Cross station and boarded a train up north!
I adore York – I’ve written about several previous visits on the blog before (here, here , here and here) and in my opinion, it’s best at this time of year, just before the colourful leaves start to fall, in the rolling mist.
It’s just perfect for a ramble in the countryside, or a peek round the Shambles, followed by a pub roast or a cosy dinner in a little cottage. All of which we managed over the course of the weekend.
We stayed in the absolutely gorgeous Pear Tree Cottage which was beautifully kitted out with everything we needed, including a walk in shower and a bookshelf filled with old fashioned games, which we immediately got stuck into!
Ian’s favourite band is Simon & Garfunkel so his Mum made him an appropriately themed birthday cake!
He has been so pleased with his presents this year, from the AMAZING lucky dip that my sister and her fiancé made him (including his favourite sweets!) to the Beatles cake I made and the 30 presents I diligently bought and wrapped (that was a long hour!)
We had the best weekend playing games, walking, eating and drinking a LOT and generally just relaxing in a beautiful setting. As ever, getting out of London for the weekend has made me feel as though my batteries are recharged- and also has awakened me to the fact that I really must get some new boots that don’t let the rainwater in!
And there was even time for a quick Betty's, my favourite tea room in the WORLD, before we hopped back on the train to reality.
What did you get up to this weekend?
