Is there anything more festive than a really, really good mug of hot chocolate?
I’ve professed my love for a good takeaway hot chocolate before – my preference being the Costa Black Forest hot choc – but sometimes, you know, you just don’t want to leave the house – maybe it’s raining, or you’re watching a film. And so, quietly, I’ve been on the hunt for the best hot chocolate you can knock up in your own kitchen with the help of a festive mug, a can of whipped cream and some milk. Don’t get too excited, but I think I’ve found it.
Salted. Caramel. Hot chocolate. Three words that really sum up everything that is good in the world, really. This tin from Hotel Chocolat is £10 for the tin, so it’s not the cheapest hot chocolate, but I promise it’s worth it – this is so much better than the powdery stuff you buy in the supermarket!
It looks and smells like proper chocolate. I made it according to the packaging – you boil some milk in a saucepan, then slowly stir in two heaped spoonfuls of the chocolate flakes with a whisk. I poured my chocolate into this gorgeous mug and topped it off with some whipped cream and some sprinkles – just to add to the festive feeling!
The taste is rich and chocolatey, but the tang of the salt keeps the caramel from being overly sweet – it is honestly the most delicious drink I’ve ever tasted! It’s fresh and so lasts until next February at the most – but I can’t see it hanging around as long as that!
Have you ever tried this hot chocolate? What’s your favourite Christmas drink?
