10 Things I’ve Been Loving This Week

When I woke up on Monday morning I texted my best friend straight away – ‘I’m getting married next week!’ And today, it’s just a week away.
I can’t believe how quickly the time is slipping away. This time next week I’ll be standing at the altar marrying my best friend. I’m sort of running out of words to describe how I feel about that, so instead, here’s the little things I’ve been loving this week; this weird, not-quite-there-yet week…

1.        Lunchtimes in Pret, with diet coke and a stack of bridal magazines- I’m really going to miss these and the little fizz of excitement each one gives me, so I’m making the most of them now! In particular I’ve been reading the honeymoon supplements, dreaming of sunny skies…
2.       The West Wing. Oh my god I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to mention this show – Ian and I were looking for a new box set but the West Wing kind of intimidated me because it has like a million episodes. But we gave the first episode a try and now somehow we’re halfway through the second series and we’re only getting six hours sleep a night because we always want to watch just one more. It’s so clever and funny and I just want to watch it forever (and luckily, there’s one million episodes, so I can!) Also, Rob Lowe = my new crush. Dreamy.
3.       Challenging people to duels on the Jawbone app, and winning.
4.       Spontaneous drinks and Pizza Express on Wednesday with my little sister. Also, smoked salted almonds in the bar – a revelation!
5.       Eating corn on the cob. I don’t know why it took me so long to realise that this was the best food ever. It combines sweetcorn, which I love, with butter and salt. What’s not to love?! I’ve eaten it like three times this week and I’m planning to have it again for dinner tonight. Sorry not sorry.
6.       A little splurge in Lush – my excuse is that I need them for the wedding, which is pretty much my excuse for everything at the moment – not sure what I’ll do when that excuse runs out…!
7.       The fact that this week, it was 100 days till Christmas. I know, I KNOW I can’t get excited for Christmas yet when there all these other exciting things in the way…but I still get a little flutter of excitement when I think about hot chocolate and jumpers and family time and little mini sausages wrapped in bacon. I have a problem, okay?
8.       The TV show ‘Hunted.’ Oh my god I wish I was on this show! The concept is that you have to ‘disappear’ and run away from the best detectives in England. Ian and I spend the whole time shouting at the TV ‘No! Don’t do that! What I would do is…’ and it’s great.
9.       The combination of wearing false nails (to stop picking, ugh) and Blistex meaning I have soft shiny lips.
10.   Every friend/colleague/family member who has got excited with me about the ticking away of time this week. I feel like I want to drain every drop of enjoyment out of this process; out of the fact that this is the only engagement I will ever have, the most exciting time of my life. I just can’t wait to finish work and enjoy it some more!

10 Things I’ve Been Loving This Week

It’s been a bit of a weird one, this week. I’ve had this cold that isn’t really doing anything, but won’t budge, either. We got woken up one night by the police looking for a missing person, which has set my sleep all off-kilter and made me just generally a bit of a grouch. And work has suddenly stepped up a gear which, when I’m trying to organise last minute wedding things, has really been the opposite of ideal! Nevertheless, there have still been plenty of little moments of happiness…

1.        Getting my passport delivered to me, and seeing my new married name on the envelope for the first time – I actually had to dash into the bedroom and wake my fiancé up to show him. It looks so weird, but it’s so exciting!
2.       Doing a big internet shop and the satisfaction of a full fridge. It’s the little things in life.
3.       A Monday night gig at the Lexington with one of my best friends on Monday evening – we saw Brakes and they were so weird and crazy but it was just a really nice evening. It’s made me want to spend a lot of time in Angel getting better acquainted with all the amazing looking pubs, too!
4.       Cider With Rosie and Tanya Burr’s wedding photos – feeling beyond excited (and kind of beyond nervous) for my own wedding now, having seen how beautiful and happy they look just gives me butterflies in my tummy!
5.       Trying on my own wedding dress in my second-to-last dress fitting – I love it so much that when I put it on, I don’t want to take it off! I cannot wait to wear it.
6.       A night on the sofa, eating soup and a grilled cheese sandwich and watching the Great British Bake Off cuddled up with Ian. Happiness.
7.       Ordering little gifts for the bridesmaids and getting excited at the thought of them opening them on the morning of the wedding…and a slightly bigger present for Ian that I really hope he loves as much as I do!
8.       Getting a good appraisal at work, and being involved in some good projects going forwards – always nice to be recognised!
9.       Kellogg’s new Crunchy Nut Porridge. I know, it sounds weird, but it’s nutty and sweet and filling and just all kinds of goodness, and I look forward to eating it every morning!
10.   The fact that, as of today, it is TWO WEEKS until my wedding day. Two weeks until I get to stand at the front of a church and tell Ian that I want to spend the rest of my life with him – and I really, really do.

What have you been loving this week?

Hen Do 2.0

I had the most amazing hen do in June, organised by my sister – a gorgeous weekend in a beautiful cottage in Bath, complete with swimming pool, beautician, meal in the local pub, decorations and all my best friends. It was so lovely and I just couldn’t stop smiling.
All the girls
The only slight downside was that on the Saturday night I really didn’t feel very well and we couldn’t go out on the town. I have to admit, I’d always pictured that part of my hen do would involve a big night out, with me in a sash or a silly outfit, drinking far too much wine and just generally making a fool of myself. This Saturday just gone, my friends decided to have a little second gathering for me so that we could do exactly that!

Cupcakes and chocolates

All dressed up (I'm on the right)

The celebrations started at my flat, where we all gathered for Prosecco and cakes, and I was presented with my dream sash – I absolutely loved it!
Mrs Perrins to Be

It was a bit harder to get rid of Ian than we thought – but once we dressed him up, he couldn’t wait to make his escape…!

After a few glasses of bubbly, we made our way over to Canary Wharf for an Italian dinner.

Before heading to Smollenksy’s cocktail bar for happy hour – where the dare cards came out…

Along with the trays of shots…

And by that point my memory starts to get a little hazy. What I do know is that we headed into town, ending up in Piccadilly, where we’d selected a really classy establishment known as Strawberry Moons for our night out.

We weren’t even the only hen do, and it was honestly so much fun. We used all the dare cards (watching my friend rub her face into a man’s chest hair was a truly once in a lifetime experience!), found random props to play with (we came home with a tiara, an army cap and a plastic penis – yuck!) and danced round our shoes to the Spice Girls and B*Witched.

I honestly feel so incredibly lucky to have the best girlfriends on earth. Some of them stayed over and we spent the next morning sitting on my sofa bed, eating leftover Ferrero Rocher and laughing till we cried at the memories of the night before. My ‘last fling before the ring’ was truly memorable! Now the final countdown is on…!
