I actually went to Selfridges Forest on the Roof restaurant last year too, but never blogged about it because I got carried away with, you know, Christmas. I really regretted not sharing the photos because it’s such a gorgeous place – so much so that my best friend and I, who I visited with, decided to make it a yearly treat! I don’t know why it’s so good, but I’m already looking forward to going again next year!
As last year, we managed to take a Friday off for a little break in our manic work schedules and headed to London for a bit of shopping (aka me panic-buying two dresses for the wedding I had on Saturday – nothing like leaving things to the last minute!) before heading to Selfridges, the most Christmassy place in the world, probably. There’s a lift that takes you straight upstairs to the gorgeous festive corridor leading into the restaurant - although if you're not in a mad rush like us, definitely head to the Christmas section for a little look first!
We booked a table, and although you don’t have to, I recommend you do if you’re visiting at a busy time like we were –they did turn the couple in front of us away, and you don't want to miss it! We sat down and ordered a bottle of wine – well, it is Christmas (who am I kidding, I’d do this any day of the year!)
We usually just order starters and sides and this was no exception. The waiter did forget out bread and butter, but quite frankly we didn’t need it! We had stilton and endive salad, salt-baked chicken salad with crispy bacon and avocado…
Truffle fries –and swiss cheese fondue chips. A revelation.
The truffle chips are genuinely the best ones I’ve ever had and the thing I was most looking forward to from the year before – and I was not disappointed!
We had a long, leisurely lunch before we headed over to surprise my friend on her 30th birthday with cards, presents and cake in a pub by Borough Market, which was absolutely full of pissed people on their work dos, but fun nonetheless!
If you’re enjoying a day of Christmas shopping in London, I really cannot recommend anywhere better for lunch – it’s somehow the sparkliest, most festive place and the prices are really not too horrendous for what feels like such a luxurious experience. Can I go back now please?
