Winter Seaside Weekend

In the olden days, people used to say the sea air was a cure for illnesses. If you had flu or a cold or whatever (and you were rich enough) you’d get shipped off out of London to breathe in the air and bathe in the cold water, and presumably eat ye olde fish and chips, and you’d be right as rain.

Well, I don’t know about bathing in the water (no thank you) but having had a cold/sore throat on and off for a month now (pharyngitis if you wanna get fancy) I couldn’t wait to get out of London for a weekend. Some fresh, freezing air was just what I needed.

That and a fish platter pub lunch. Yes please.

We headed down to Portsmouth, where some friends live, for a little seaside escape. Only a couple of hours out of London, it couldn’t be more different! As I said, we started with wine and food in a pub, before a wander along Gun Wharf…and a trip up Spinnaker Tower!

Although I’ve seen the tower many times before, I’ve never visited. The views are amazing and the sunset was beautiful!

The staff weren’t particularly helpful or friendly, but it didn’t ruin it for us and we headed back to our house for the night with cold noses, for wine and curry and an early night.

The next day we headed to Lee on Solent Beach for more of that sea air.

With toddler and dog in tow, it was a very adventurous outing! But I managed to grab a couple of snaps. I’m obsessed with my gorgeous new coat from Miss Selfridge – it’s sold out now but they have several other amazing value offers, definitely worth having a little look if you’re in the market!

After a long walk, we headed home for lunch and then spent the afternoon watching our friend perform in the army Christmas concert. Despite it being November, I felt very festive by the end of it – I’m completely ready to start getting into the Christmas spirit now! Happy December 1st, everybody!
